Ralph Michael Brekan - Artist
Statement
As time changes the world around us, our interpretation of subject matter also evolves. Art is a glimpse of the past and a vision of the future. Themes of popular culture, mass consumerism and politics fill our waken world and in turn I churn out works that define the world around me. These reoccurring elements of mass production, popularity, brand identity reside throughout my work, both in the subject matter I choose and in the media I employ to execute the vision.
New media by definition is what it is. Media, that at the dawn of the twenty-first century, is unfound, either experimental or previously unapplied to fine art. A simpler translation might be "electronic mixed media", the very essence of my technique. I apply years of experimentation and research to variety of common graphic design and fine art practices, which have yielded new fine art techniques. Whether I collage oversized xerographic images onto panel by hand or use a computer to assemble new images from scratch, new media defines the technique by which I execute my masterpieces.
The combination of popular subject themes, coupled with groundbreaking new media, creates stunning imagery that reproduce well. The master works are exhibited to solicit giclee and/or laser print editions. Each edition is printed on demand yielding an exacting original print edition every time. The edition is dated and hand signed by myself and then logged and authenticated for future reference. Select collections and institutions are encouraged to collect master works, since these works are more delicate and generate interest as originals with the art-viewing public.
Evolution is key to survival. Art has transcended generations not only by learning from the past, but by keen foresight into the future. My work, rich in art history and popular styles, has subscribed to the most common virtue of the past masters: experimentation.
